It is made by Bernt Notke (1435-1509). They are one of the very few depictions were the dragon actually looks like a capable enemy and not like some poor dog sized animal. When I was young, I always wondered why the dragon is usually depicted so small (didnt see the heroics in slaying such a small beast from horseback with a lance longer than the dragon). Hope you like them:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Stockholm-Storkyrkan_%28St.Georg%29.jpg

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/Stockholm-Gamla_Stan-6.jpg
Typhonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08087409371952413589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739684561063978507.post-44032737938690163382013-08-30T22:10:45.163+01:002013-08-30T22:10:45.163+01:00I agree when it comes to feeling funny about the ...I agree when it comes to feeling funny about the "mammalian" version, but being crazy about reptiles, I always feel the same way about all the other versions too. I'm with Anonymous and Richard Freeman about that. The painter experimented with perspectives, and was very fond of birds, hence nick-named Uccelli.januhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09612123722083107312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739684561063978507.post-25533329654609705742012-07-05T19:49:08.202+01:002012-07-05T19:49:08.202+01:00I HATE DRAGON KILLERSI HATE DRAGON KILLERSAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739684561063978507.post-54620305563046757742012-07-02T07:23:31.105+01:002012-07-02T07:23:31.105+01:00These are quite impressive and very beautiful too....These are quite impressive and very beautiful too. Most are about the size of a dog. Discriptions of them in legend usualy painted them as gigantic beasts.
The real St George was a Syrian con man who got lynched by an angry mob in Lybia and thorwn into the sea. The part about him fighting a dragon was added later and is a blaten rip off of the story of Perseus rescuing Andromeda from Cetus in Greek legend.
I say hurra for the dragon and a pox on St George.Richard Freemanhttp://www.cfz.org.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739684561063978507.post-67419969929785757242012-04-23T18:03:23.277+01:002012-04-23T18:03:23.277+01:00http://news.yahoo.com/video/world-15749633/russian...http://news.yahoo.com/video/world-15749633/russian-scientists-on-quest-for-elusive-white-orca-29051715.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
