It covers 1/3 of the State, generally in the southeast. Most of it is preserved, and some areas are hardly ever visited, as the terrain is divided by streams and wetlands, and some areas are many miles from any road or trail. If there's something "strange" anywhere on the US East Coast, this is as good a place as any. And the "pygmy pines" are stunted because of frequent wildfires.
