Its the closest one can get to Peter Pan's Neverland as far as scenery goes. Paul Gauguin and Thor Heyerdahl spent time in the Marquesas. Lots of fruit trees and exotic birds were the good things on these islands. Biting and stinging arthropods and tropical diseases are the bad side of these islands. These islands have the potential to be a paradise.Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16113388150949998158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3739684561063978507.post-90550155857356716782011-11-16T14:50:33.420+00:002011-11-16T14:50:33.420+00:00The polynesians did a lot of travel and Tahiti wou...The polynesians did a lot of travel and Tahiti would not have been impossible. Would travellers carry non-domesticated but captive birds of such conspicuous color as emblems of power and significance? Not that unrealistic. Could these birds still be out there? I seem to recall a wild takahe was sighted not too long ago outside of Christchurch. I'm prone to thinking there are plenty of surprises waiting for the lucky, persistent and aware.
